The Police dispatched officers to Alexandra on Monday morning in order to dissolve the protests in the area.
The protest resulted in the closure of Marlboro Drive and Pretoria Main Road.
It is believed that the residents are expressing their grievances regarding power outages in the area.
Just last month, residents of Alexandra were also highly dissatisfied with the perceived lack of service delivery.
Xolani Fihla, the spokesperson for the Johannesburg metro police, has advised motorists to seek alternative routes.
The intersection of Marlboro Drive and Pretoria Main Road in Marlboro has been barricaded, causing significant traffic.
Additionally, closures have been implemented on Viola Road due to the protest by Alexander residents, who are reportedly protesting against the power outages.
The situation remains tense, prompting the deployment of officers to the area.
These road closures are causing extensive delays as traffic is being redirected away from the affected areas, impacting the flow of vehicles to and from the Marlboro Driving License Testing Centre.
Motorists should anticipate substantial delays along Marlboro Drive on the M1 South, particularly towards the Marlboro Drive and Grayston Drive exits.
Furthermore, Andre Street in Wineburg and Grayston Drive in Sandton, heading towards the M1, are also experiencing heavy traffic congestion.
