A shootout happened on Friday morning on the N2, where an alleged hijacker met his end after a hijacking attempt.
The unfortunate victim, a 60-year-old man, was ambushed by hijackers while at the Tongaat Toll.
During the attack, the man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, requiring immediate medical attention.
IPSS Advanced Life Support Paramedics swiftly arrived at the scene to treat the injured man before rushing him to a nearby hospital for further care.
Fortunately, the South African Police Service (SAPS) and private security companies responded swiftly.
As the hijackers attempted to flee, law enforcement and suspects engaged in a shootout on the N2 northbound offramp at Tongaat.
One of the alleged hijackers was fatally wounded in the exchange, while the remaining culprits managed to escape in the hijacked vehicle.
