Police in Durban are currently investigating a case of robbery after a group of men stormed the Checkers store in Windermere Centre on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred when four men, dressed in full Checkers uniforms, entered the store from the receiving section, pretending to be employees. Once inside, they brandished firearms and demanded the staff hand over their personal belongings.

According to the South African Police Services (SAPS) spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Nqobile Gwala, the suspects then forced the staff towards the basement and made them lie down on the floor before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, no shots were fired, and no injuries were reported.
SAPS has launched an investigation into the robbery, with Berea SAPS handling the case. Lieutenant Colonel Gwala urged the public to come forward with any information that could assist in the investigation.

In response to the incident, Checkers released a statement expressing their concern for the safety of their customers and employees. They confirmed that no one was seriously injured during the robbery and stated that trauma counselling has been arranged for all employees involved.
Checkers also called on the public to report any information regarding the crime to the hotline number provided. The supermarket chain strongly condemns such acts of crime and is committed to ensuring the safety and security of its stores.
