Police in Thohoyandou, Vhembe District, are currently conducting an investigation on a case of deliberate fire attack resulting in extensive damages worth R2 million.
The incident occurred at Muledane Block J, adjacent to a local clinic, on Sunday.
According to Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the spokesperson for the Limpopo police, the distressing event took place around 2 am.
As per the police report, a 47-year-old woman was sleeping at her residence with her two children, aged 19 and 24, when she heard a suspicious sound of a broken window at approximately 2:49 am.
She promptly woke up to investigate and discovered an unidentified male holding a plastic container in one of the bedrooms.
Concerned for the safety of her children, she immediately secured the door to their bedroom.
Shortly after, the woman allegedly encountered the intruder in the hallway, who proceeded to pour a flammable substance over her body, as reported by the police.
Acting swiftly, the victim managed to gather her children and evacuate the house, seeking assistance from a neighboring residence.
Upon realizing that their house was engulfed in flames, they promptly alerted the police and the fire brigade, who swiftly arrived at the scene, according to Ledwaba.
Regrettably, the fire proved too intense to be extinguished, resulting in the complete destruction of the house.
Ledwaba stated that a manhunt is currently underway to locate the unidentified suspects.
