Actress Diaan Lawrenson expressed her thoughts for the cast and crew of SABC2’s canned soapie 7de Laan. The channel announced on Tuesday that the show will not be renewed after 24 seasons on air.
Paula van der Lecq
Diaan kept fans of 7deLaan glued to their screens as she played the bubbly and fashionable Paula van der Lecq. Who could forget Paula’s relationship with Altus, played by Heino Schmitt? The pair were the ‘it couple’ in die Laan.
The actress took to her Instagram stories to empathize with the workers on the soapie. “Thinking of all the actors and crew of 7de Laan. This was my first publicity shoot as Paula. Many, many moons ago,” she wrote.
Statement from SABC
The soapie shared the news of the axing in a form of a statement on their social media. Lala Tuku, SABC head of content for video entertainment, says, “The SABC is proud to have worked with Danie Odendaal Productions and been part of the journey leading and producing the best Afrikaans soapie on local television for SABC2. 7de Laan has penetrated the hearts of millions of South African.”
Final Curtain Call
7De Laan joins a list of productions that have reached their final curtain call such as Gomora, The River, Imbewu-The Seed, The Queen, Durban Gen and DiepCity.
Executive Producer’s Statement
Thandi Ramathesele, 7de Laan executive producer, says, “It has been an honour and privilege to produce a show that has touched the lives of so many South Africans for over two decades. As we come to the end of this chapter, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated cast and crew who have poured their talent and passion into bringing the show to life.”
