Diep City’ Actress Lebogang ‘Lettie’ Mpyana Has Passed On

It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to the beloved actress, influencer, and comedian, Lebogang ‘Lettie’ Mpyana. On Wednesday, 1 November, Lettie passed away after a brief illness, leaving her fans and colleagues in shock and mourning.

Her family, represented by spokesperson T Mpyana, shared the devastating news on Lettie’s Facebook account on Thursday morning, 2 November.

The statement read, ‘It is with great sadness to announce the passing of our daughter, Lebogang Mpyana. Lebo died after a short illness. We ask that you keep us in your thoughts and prayers in this time of bereavement. Memorial service and funeral service details will follow.’

In their time of grief, the Mpyana family also made a heartfelt request to the public. They asked everyone to refrain from posting and tagging Lettie’s social media accounts, allowing them to mourn in peace.

Lettie gained popularity for her role as the gossipmonger Khelina in the Mzansi Magic telenovela, Diep City. Her vibrant personality and incredible comedic timing brought joy to many viewers.

Lettie’s former co-star, Chrispen Nyathi, who portrayed the role of Pastor Charleston in Diep City, took to Instagram to pay tribute to his dear friend.

Comedienne, chef, and actress Lebogang Tlokana also expressed her condolences on Instagram, writing, ‘Rest in Peace, Queen Sekwatakwata.’ The outpouring of love and support from fans and fellow artists has been overwhelming.

On social media, Lettie’s fans shared their memories and expressed their grief. Wendy Mofokeng, known as @wendymofokeng14, wrote, ‘Today we are making noise for you, hopefully you will understand. Rest in peace, Lettie.’

Kelly Mofokeng, @Kelly_mofokeng, expressed her admiration for Lettie, saying, ‘I liked her so much, bro. That sucks, man.’ Sarel Lee, @sarel_lee, quoted John Donne, writing, ‘It is said the cause of death was a short illness. Death be not proud.’

Joy Zelda, @joy_zelda, highlighted Lettie’s incredible talent, stating, ‘She killed her character as Khelina on Diep City. The industry has lost another great talent.’
