The Hawks in Gauteng seized drugs worth R1.5 million at O.R. Tambo International Airport.
According to Hawks spokesman Philani Nkwalase, the Germiston-based team was summoned to the airport on Wednesday over a potential drug shipment.
“The police were alerted by a courier company which found 11 bags suspected to be drugs weighing 25 kg each,” says Nkwalase.
“The suspected drugs wrapped in visible plastic were concealed as spare parts in a brown container.”
According to Nkwalase, the suspected drugs were taken to a forensic laboratory for analysis.
The investigation is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
