EFF Rejects President Ramaphosa’s Holiday ‘Within A Holiday’

Posted on October 31, 2023

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have rejected President Cyril Ramaphosa’s recent announcement of a holiday within a holiday.

The President declared 15 December 2023 as a public holiday in celebration of the Springboks’ Rugby World Cup win. However, the EFF claims that Ramaphosa has backtracked on his initial promise of a public holiday immediately after the Boks’ victory.

In a statement, the EFF criticized the President for his deceitful attempt to fulfil his promise. They argue that the chosen date falls within an existing holiday period in South Africa, where most labour-intensive industries are already closed, schools are closed, and many South Africans are already at home with their families.

The EFF further accuses Ramaphosa of using sporting moments to promote himself and the ANC, stating, “Ramaphosa has exposed himself as an opportunist who places himself at the center of a sporting victory with lies.”

They urge South Africans to reject the President’s excuse of considering matriculants who are writing exams, calling it a pretentious act of consideration.

They were expecting a holiday this week to celebrate the Boks’ victory. The President’s announcement has been seen as opportunistic and a departure from his initial promise.
