City of Johannesburg firefighters are currently attending to a blaze that broke out at eight small shops located on the corner of Jeppe and Polly streets in the Central Business District (CBD).
The emergency alert was received at 4.55am on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from the Emergency Management Services (EMS).

According to Xolile Khumalo, spokesperson for the EMS, there have been no reported injuries thus far. The firefighters are currently engaged in dampening down the flames and ensuring the safety of the surrounding area.
Khumalo also mentioned that EMS fire inspectors are on standby to conduct thorough investigations into the cause of the fire. Determining the cause will be crucial in preventing similar incidents in the future and ensuring the safety of the community.
With the recent hailstorm on Monday and the cooler temperatures experienced this week, Khumalo took the opportunity to remind residents of the importance of adopting safe heating practices.
The EMS urges the community to exercise extra caution when using electrical appliances and braziers.
