According to Selvy Mohlala, the spokesperson for the Mpumalanga police, four additional trucks were set on fire on Wednesday morning.
These incidents occurred on the N2 highway between Piet Retief and Ermelo.
Mohlala stated that three of the trucks were severely burned, while the fourth truck was only burned in the cabin.
This incident follows the burning of five trucks on the N4 near Waterval Boven on Monday.
Similar incidents have also been reported in KwaZulu-Natal, where five trucks were set ablaze, and in Limpopo, where three trucks were also targeted.
In one of the incidents, a woman sustained burn injuries on her feet while she was allegedly asleep in one of the trucks.
Mohlala explained that it is believed that individuals emerged from the grass and approached the trucks with firearms, instructing the drivers to exit the vehicles or risk being burned inside.
The drivers complied and fled the scene, after which the trucks were set on fire. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind these attacks remains unknown.
