In a recent incident at the Wakkerstroom Post Office, Nelspruit, four suspects, aged between 28 and 48, have been apprehended for a robbery that took place on Friday, 02 February 2024, at approximately 09:10.
The robbery occurred while social grants were being distributed, as three individuals forcefully entered the post office. Armed with weapons, the suspects held the employees at gunpoint and demanded access to the cash safe.

During the course of the robbery, the suspects managed to steal an undisclosed amount of cash before fleeing the scene.
Authorities were promptly alerted, and the rural safety members from the surrounding farms were activated by the Wakkerstroom Police. These members spotted a vehicle matching the description of the suspects’ getaway vehicle and successfully intercepted it.

Upon searching the vehicle, the four suspects were found in possession of a firearm, with its serial number filed off, as well as the stolen cash.
The suspects have been arrested and charged accordingly. Additionally, a second vehicle believed to have been used during the robbery was discovered abandoned in Wakkerstroom. Both vehicles and the firearm have been confiscated for further investigation.
The four suspects are scheduled to appear at the Wakkerstroom Periodical Court on Monday, 05 February 2024.

They will face charges of business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm. Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, commended the swift response of both the SAPS members and rural safety members.

Their collaborative efforts led to the successful arrest of the suspects and the recovery of the stolen firearm and vehicles.
General Manamela emphasised that criminals should not view the province as a safe haven for their illicit activities. The outcome of this case serves as a warning that decisive action will be taken against those who engage in criminal behaviour.
