The suspect refused to comply with the officers’ instructions to halt and instead fired shots at them. In self-defence, the police officers returned fire, injuring the suspect before successfully apprehending him.
The 30-year-old alleged gunman was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Initial investigations suggest that he hails from Inanda in KwaZulu-Natal and may have ties to taxi violence. The suspect is currently hospitalised under police supervision and will face charges of murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
Authorities suspect that the arrested individual may be connected to additional criminal activities, including other instances of taxi violence. Ongoing investigations are being conducted to establish any potential links and gather further evidence.
The suspect is expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court in the near future. Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies continue their efforts to ensure the safety and security of the public, particularly in relation to the ongoing issue of taxi-related violence.
