Collen Malatji, the newly-elected president of the ANC Youth League, has taken a jab at EFF leader Julius Malema, claiming that he was expelled in 2012 because he lacked discipline and violated the ANC constitution.
ANCYL delegates elected Malatji as their first president in eight years this weekend, giving him with the task of embarking on a journey of regeneration and revival.
Collen Maine was the last elected ANCYL president before they struggled to convene conferences and a series of task teams were formed to stabilise the ANC’s youth wing.
Malema, who was ANCYL president from 2008 to 2012, was sacked owing to ill-discipline, according to Malatji, since he “violated the party’s constitution” throughout his reign.
“Malema was fired for economic freedom? That’s not true, that’s a lie that must be clarified. He was fired for ill-discipline. He was fired for contravening the constitution of the ANC and the youth league.
““He wanted to create a youth league to be a cult organisation that belongs to him like the EFF. In the EFF, no matter how educated you are, you can’t even speak. Educated doctors like Ndlozo you see they run around with water everywhere,” Malatji said.
“Here in the ANC you are allowed to bring your books, that is why we have policy conferences, meetings and even went further during the local government elections to open for our candidates to our communities,” he said.
He emphasised that the youth league was not a cult organisation, hence anyone with ill-discipline was expelled.
Malatji said Malema is popular on Twitter and garners a lot of support. “If there was a Twitter vote, according to Twitter, Julius would be president of the country today.”
Malaji added that the ANC is the only party for the people. “It is the first organisation to acknowledge its mistakes and problems.”
