On Friday, a 22-year-old man appeared in the Kabokweni Magistrate’s Court in Mpumalanga after allegedly murdering his 75-year-old grandfather.
Siyabonga Sanderson is accused of murder and obstructing justice.

On Thursday, November 9, he was arrested after his grandfather, Albert Sanderson, was exhumed at their home in Swalala near White River.

According to the State’s findings, on November 6, Sanderson allegedly argued with his grandfather over his relationships with multiple women.
This comes after his grandfather scolded him for bringing many “girlfriends” to his house.
Sanderson is accused of punching his grandfather, who collapsed. He went on to dig a shallow grave in the backyard for his grandfather.
Monica Nyuswa, a provincial spokesman for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), stated that during Sanderson’s appearance, he informed the court that he would be handling his own defence in the criminal issue.

He also stated that he would not apply for bail since he knew the State would oppose it owing to the nature of the offence.
Sanderson has been placed under arrest.
The case has been postponed for January 30 for further investigation.
