A 56-year-old man was sentenced to 18 years in prison for sexually assaulting his 13-year-old niece in front of her cousin in Galeshewe.
The judgement was handed by the Galeshewe Regional Court, which found the man guilty of rape.
The victim and her cousin were summoned to the scene by their uncle on December 9, 2018.
He lured them into his shack, shut the door, and raped the young girl in front of her cousin.
After the victim informed her grandma about the incident, a charge was immediately filed at the local police station.
The accused was quickly arrested on the same day and held in custody until his sentence at the Galeshewe Regional Court on June 12, 2023. The provincial police spokesperson, Lt-Col Sergio Kock, confirmed these details.
Kock further reported that the convicted uncle was sentenced to 18 years in jail for rape and that his name was entered into the National Registry of Sex Offenders.
The Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Mmantsheke Lekhele, praised Detective Captain Godfrey Khatwane and Detective Constable Beverley Matlhale for their meticulous investigation, which resulted in the successful prosecution of the accused.
The diligent work of these investigators played a crucial role in ensuring that the perpetrator faced justice for his abhorrent and appalling actions.
