Fikile Mbalula, secretary-general of the African National Congress (ANC), has attempted to clarify his position on Minister Pravin Gordhan, after urging the Public Enterprises Minister to move faster on Transnet concerns or face being moved by the party.
Mbalula attacked non-performing ministers and premiers during his speech at the ANC Women’s League’s national electoral conference on Saturday.

“Comrade Pravin move faster, or otherwise we will move you. Comrade Pravin move faster at Transnet or otherwise, we will move you,” he said.
Mbalula indicated in a Saturday evening statement following the address that he was not calling for Gordhan’s dismissal, in what can only be interpreted as an attempt to apologise to the Public Enterprises Minister.
He described it as a rallying cry for policy reforms to address the country’s rail and freight logistical difficulties.
He emphasised that the party does not have the luxury of time and must act quickly to address concerns endangering South Africans’ livelihoods.
Mbalula also praised Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi during his speech, citing him as a model of how ANC deployees should behave in government.
