A Cape Town mother who was arrested after selling naked images of her children on the dark web was sentenced to 25 years in prison this week, bringing her two-year trial to an end.
After a lengthy investigation headed by the FBI and Homeland Security from the United States, the 33-year-old from Bonteheuwel on the Cape Flats was apprehended in March 2021.
A Homeland Security agent pretended to be a buyer and tracked her down to Bonteheuwel after she accepted money via PayPal.
SurgeZirc SA knows the woman’s name but cannot publish it due to the sensitivity of the case and to protect her children.
She was arrested on charges of child pornography manufacturing, possession of child pornography, distribution of child pornography, financial gain from child pornography, and rape.
She appeared in Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on all charges until her case was transferred to Parow Regional Court, where she was sentenced to 25 years in prison.
According to Eric Ntabazalila, a spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in the Western Cape, the woman was sentenced after entering into a plea agreement last year.
“This matter was finalised through a 105A [plea and sentencing agreement] on November 25, 2022,” he said.

“It was finalised by the NPA after engaging the legal representatives of the accused and the accused.”
Angus McKenzie, Bonteheuwel Ward Councillor, who had committed to follow the issue to its completion, said the case should serve as a warning to child abusers.
“For an extended period these kids were sexually abused and exploited by their mother,” he said.
“Now for the next 25 years, she will need to deal with the pain, trauma and suffering she inflicted on them.”
McKenzie stated that the youngsters can now begin to rebuild their lives.
“I promised we would see justice in the case, and we have that justice. Let this be a lesson to other deranged individuals. You will be caught, and I will not rest until justice is served.”
The children are currently in foster care.
