Biography
Nelson Chamisa is a Zimbabwean politician, lawyer, theologist, and activist. He was the former President of the Citizens Coalition For Change and served as a Member of the House of Assembly of Zimbabwe for Kuwadzana East, Harare.
In the 2018 general elections in Zimbabwe, Chamisa was the MDC Alliance’s presidential candidate. He had previously been the leader of the party’s youth assembly. Chamisa served as the former chairperson of national youth for the party (MDC Alliance) and the Secretary for Information and Publicity for the opposition party Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). Chamisa was elected MDC Alliance’s spokesman at the Party Congress in June 2006.
At age 25, in 2003, Chamisa became the youngest Member of Parliament, and in 2009, he was the youngest cabinet minister in the Government of National Unity of Zimbabwe.

Nelson Chamisa was born in the small town of Masvingo on 2nd February 1978. He celebrated his 46th birthday on February 2nd, 2024. Chamisa has also been characterized as a Christian social conservative and an economic progressive. Chamisa was 25 when he became the youngest Member of Parliament and 31 when he became a cabinet minister in the Government of National Unity of Zimbabwe, making him the youngest ever.

Education
Chamisa attended the Harare Polytechnic University of Zimbabwe. He holds a master’s in International Relations and Diplomacy from the University of Zimbabwe. He also has a Governance and Development Studies degree from Stanford University in California, USA, a bachelor’s degree in political science and public administration, and an LLB (Honours) from the University of Zimbabwe.
Nelson Chamisa is a qualified lawyer who has worked for Harare law firm Atherstone and Cook since November 2014. He obtained a degree in Pentecostal Theology from Living Waters Theological Seminary of Harare in 2016. Living Waters Theological Seminary is affiliated with the Apostolic Faith Mission in his country, Zimbabwe.
Parents
Nelson was born to Alice and Sylvanus Chamisa in Rhodesia. His father was a Rhodesian African Rifles soldier. Victor Matemadanda, the secretary of Zanu-PF for War Veterans and the Deputy Deputy Minister of Defence and War Veterans, said his father served earnestly. He said,
“May he respectfully be told that if Mavhaire is a war veteran, then he is the class of Chamisa’s father, a Rhodesian war veteran and not the veteran of the liberation struggle.”
