On Thursday, June 8, a 48-year-old police Captain appeared in the Vryburg Magistrate’s Court after being detained for alleged theft.
Captain Baile Mokgoro, who is stationed in Vryburg, North West, is accused of filling up a State vehicle at a Vryburg CBD petrol station. While there, he allegedly used State funds to purchase fuel for his personal generator.
Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone of the North West SAPS claimed Mokgoro dumped 40.14 litres (R923,43) into the State vehicle and 25 litres (R577,00) into his generator.
“The total amount paid by the state is R1 503,45. Subsequent to reporting of the incident and investigation by the Provincial Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit (ACIU), the member was arrested,” said the police spokesperson.
Lieutenant-General Sello Kwena, the North West police commissioner, congratulated the ACIU for their quick response and emphasised that dishonest employees have no place in the police force and will be dealt with.
Captain Mokgoro was released on bail of R500. He is scheduled to appear in court again on 4 August.
