Three security guards employed by the City of Ekurhuleni were apprehended for alleged theft of copper cables while on duty at a municipal depot.
The incident took place in the early hours of July 1, and the arrest was made by EMPD’s anti-cable theft unit officers.

The security guards were observed by CCTV cameras in the act of stealing electrical copper cables stored at the depot located on Beans Street in the Mangweni section of Tembisa.
EMPD officers swiftly responded to the situation and caught the three security guards in the act. The stolen copper cable was valued at R20,000.

The security guards, aged between 35 and 40, were taken to the Rabasotho police station and are expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrate’s Court in due course.
They are currently facing charges of tampering with essential infrastructure.
