Despite all odds, the South African women’s national football team Banyana Banyana gave their best to raise the South African flag and bring happiness to their country when they defeated Italy to advance to the World Cup last 16.
Banyana Banyana triumphed 3-2 in a tense match on Wednesday at New Zealand’s Wellington Regional Stadium.
Their victory constituted a great recovery after losing their opening game to Sweden and drawing with Argentina. The squad needed to win in order to avoid having to leave early in the competition.
Their problems with the South African Football Association (Safa) were revealed just days before they left for the World Cup.
