Twitter has unveiled a major rebranding, bidding farewell to its iconic bird logo in favor of a sleek ‘X.’ This strategic move was announced by none other than Elon Musk over the weekend, and the change is already live on the platform.
The shift to the ‘X’ logo marks the beginning of what Musk referred to as an “interim” logo, hinting at the possibility of further changes down the line. Interestingly, Musk also revealed that x.com now redirects to twitter.com, fueling speculation about deeper integrations in the future.

But Twitter’s change won’t stop with just the logo. In a tweet, Musk declared that the company will gradually phase out the Twitter brand and, ultimately, all references to birds.
Late on Sunday, Musk took his enthusiasm a step further by updating his profile picture to the new ‘X’ logo. Even Twitter’s official account, @Twitter, followed suit, changing its name and display picture to reflect the new emblem.
In an intriguing twist, Musk suggested that users should start referring to tweets as “X’s.” This linguistic shift may be part of a broader initiative to rebrand Twitter’s terminology in line with the new logo.
Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of Twitter, expressed her excitement about the impending changes, emphasizing that Twitter revolutionized the way people interacted, but ‘X’ would take it a step further.
There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation. X will be the platform that can deliver, well….everything. @elonmusk and I are looking forward to working with our teams and every single one of our partners to bring X to the world.

The peculiar fascination with the letter ‘X’ is nothing new for Musk. From founding X.com, which later became PayPal in 1997, to adopting ‘X’ as the logo for his space venture SpaceX, and more recently establishing X.ai, an AI company, Musk has consistently woven this letter into his ventures.
In fact, in April, the social network officially changed its legal name from Twitter Inc. to X Corp, cementing the ‘X’ narrative throughout. This is not the first time Musk has toyed with Twitter’s logo. Earlier this year, he playfully replaced the bird logo with the popular Doge meme, showcasing his flair for humor.

Fortunately, a developer created an extension that allowed users to revert to the bird logo easily, and the same extension now works seamlessly for the new ‘X’ logo.
Interestingly, Twitter’s initial years did not feature the familiar bird logo. It wasn’t until 2010 that the company adopted the beloved emblem, affectionately named “Larry the Bird” after the legendary Boston Celtics basketball player, Larry Bird.
