The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services reported that a fire broke out at a building in central Johannesburg, resulting in one person being injured and over 50 people being displaced. The incident occurred on Saturday morning at the intersection of Kerk and Goud Streets.
According to spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba, more than 20 makeshift shacks within the building were destroyed by the fire. Upon arrival, firefighter crews found the shacks fully engulfed in flames. One individual was transported to a healthcare facility for further medical attention.

The fire rapidly spread throughout the building due to the use of combustible materials in the construction of the shacks. Once the firefighting operations are completed, the Emergency Management Services will conduct preliminary investigations to determine the cause of the fire.
Disaster Management teams are currently on the scene to provide assistance to the affected families. Their priority is to ensure that those displaced by the fire are provided with the necessary support and resources during this difficult time.
