A massive gas explosion occurred in Johannesburg CBD, resulting in significant damage to nearby roads and properties.
Social media videos showed cars overturned along Bree Street in Johannesburg.

According to an alert sent by the Johannesburg Joint Operating Committee of Alexandra, Midrand, Sandringham, and Sandton, the explosion happened around 5.46 pm on Wednesday.

As a precautionary measure, the public is advised to stay away from the area to allow emergency services to respond to the scene.
The Johannesburg Metro Police dispatched officers to verify the authenticity of the videos and severity of the damage caused.
Emergency services have been dispatched to the scene and the number of injured persons are unknown at this point.
