
Over the weekend, a devastating wildfire tore through the Bela Bela Local Municipality in Limpopo, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. The fire, which originated at the Mabalingwe resort on Saturday, quickly gained momentum on Sunday, with flames reaching heights of up to 40 meters.
Local authorities, along with firefighters from Thabazimbi, Modimolle, and Bela Bela, joined forces to combat the inferno. The neighbouring farmers also lent a helping hand by utilizing their private fire extinguishers. Despite the challenging winds, the combined efforts have brought the fire under control, preventing further damage.

At this time, the cause of the fire remains unclear, leaving the community with many unanswered questions. However, amidst the destruction, there is gratitude that no injuries have been reported. This unfortunate incident comes just a week after another veld fire claimed the life of one person and destroyed more than 30 homes in Phalaborwa. These consecutive tragedies have highlighted the urgent need for increased fire safety awareness and prevention measures in the region.
