Wiseman Ncube has reflected on his portrayal of Mduduzi “Mandoza” Tshabalala ahead of the highly anticipated premiere of the Nkalakatha: The Life of Mandoza biopic. The six-part life story that delves into the life of the kwaito music legend is set to debut exclusively on BET Africa on August 16.
Immersing in Mandoza’s World
Wiseman took to his timeline to share the trailer of the film and spoke of his experience playing the late star. “Before shooting I had the incredible opportunity to spend a few days in Zola immersing myself in Mandoza’s world. Mpho Tshabalala, Mandoza’s wife, and Tumelo, his son, were actively involved in the process, sharing a wealth of insights,” he said.
Portraying an Icon
“The weight of portraying an icon was heavy on my shoulders. I felt a deep responsibility to honor his memory and pay homage to his legacy and I am honored to have been chosen for the role,” Wiseman said.
Mandoza’s widow, who is an executive producer of the show, and children have been active in guiding the production, and can’t wait to showcase his life story to the world. “This project was very close to my heart and is something I have been wanting to see come to life for quite some time,” she said.
Lorraine Moropa as Mpho
Lorraine Moropa, popularly known for her role as Olerato on The Queen, plays Mpho in the film. The actress also took to her timeline to speak of how grateful she was to play an integral part in the biopic. “Another answered prayer. Her name is Mpho Tshabalala, Intombi yeNkalakatha. It’s been nothing but a blessing telling her love story and life journey with iSgelekeqe es’focus, uPhunyuka Bamphethe, the icon and superstar Mduduzi ‘Mandoza’ Tshabalala. It’s been an absolute honor and I’m very humbled. I’m grateful to Mpho Tshabalala for trusting me to tell her story and reflect on her life truthfully. Other actors set to star in the film are Dawn Thandeka King portraying Nomazwe, Lillian Dube plays the role of Gogo, and Nkosinathi “Mzambiya” Khoza takes on the role of Sechaba “Lollipop.
