The decision to release Lavona Solomon on parole was made by the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board on Friday, and she is scheduled to be released on August 18th.
Prior to her release, Solomon will participate in pre-release programs.
Following her release, she will be integrated into the Community Corrections system and will serve the remainder of her sentence until it expires in 2026.
The decision to release Solomon was influenced by several factors, including her response to rehabilitation programs, the presence of support systems in the community, the likelihood of reoffending, and the potential risk she may pose to the community or the victims.
This decision comes after the Correctional Supervision and Parole Board determined last year that Solomon needed to undergo further assessments and engage in a victim-offender dialogue process for the purpose of restorative justice before being considered for release.
Her profile was resubmitted earlier this month, leading to the decision to grant her parole.
Solomon was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Western Cape High Court in August 2016 for the kidnapping of Zephany Nurse when she was only three days old in April 1997.
Zephany was taken from Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town shortly after her birth, and Solomon raised her under the name Miché.
