On Tuesday, popular presenter Xolani Khumalo made headlines when he appeared at the Palm magistrate’s court to face a charge of murder.
Khumalo, known for his role on the show Sizok’thola, was required to hand himself over at the Katlehong North police station after being advised by his foundation.
The South African Police Service had requested that Khumalo surrender himself in connection with an incident that took place during one of the show’s drug bust episodes.
The statement from Khumalo’s foundation asserted that he and his team had always operated with the utmost professionalism in their efforts to hold drug dealers accountable and protect communities from harm.
The charge against Khumalo is in relation to the death of Robert ‘Kicks’ Varrie, an alleged drug dealer. Varrie passed away following a visit from Khumalo and his television crew while filming an episode of Sizok’thola.
Despite the serious nature of the charges, Xolani Khumalo was granted R20 000 bail by the court.
