Zandile Khumalo, the State’s first witness in the murder trial of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa, who was shot dead in Vosloorus in October 2014, has identified one of the five accused.
She stated that she recognized him as ‘one of the intruders’ present during the incident at her mother’s Vosloorus house.

Zandile Khumalo, who was at the scene when Meyiwa was killed, testified before Judge Ratha Mokgoatlheng in the Gauteng North High Court.
She pointed out ‘accused number two,’ Bongani Ntanzi, as ‘one of the intruders’ who were in the house.
Zandile Khumalo was questioned by senior prosecutor, advocate George Baloyi, during her testimony before the retired judge Mokgoatlheng, who took over the case due to Judge Tshifiwa Maumela’s reported illness.
Zandile, the younger sister of singer Kelly Khumalo, who was romantically involved with Meyiwa at the time of his death, confirmed that she had not been given the opportunity to identify the suspects in an ID parade.
Nevertheless, she reaffirmed that in her statement, she had mentioned her ability to identify the individuals who murdered Meyiwa.
Baloyi asked Zandile about any distinguishing features of Ntanzi that made her remember the suspect.
Zandile explained that during the incident, while confronting the intruder with a crutch together with Tumelo Madlala, she had a close look at him.
She vividly remembered ‘his whole face,’ ‘his body,’ and ‘his height when he is standing.’

The trial was postponed until Thursday morning after Zandile complained of chest pains. Both the State and the defense did not object to the postponement.
